Some ranger questions :p
Hallo, well i got a ranger, already got him to 20 in factions and starting the mission part where i get help from luxons/kurzicks. I played gw as a warrior for a long time and i am slightly interested in making myself a rpg ranger that for pvp xD Especially arenas and AB. Ofcourse a bit of pve also.
I use a Zelnehlun's Longbow, its a decent green but i find it stupid in arenas lol cuz people always dodge my attacks. I am a r/rit btw, my friend used to play this ranger character when i quit gw for a while and he got him to lvl 10 and then he went back to wow and i decided to play it. Also i got factions and prophecies only so no arseome skills like burning arrow >.<
This is my build:
12 expertise
9 wilderness
9 marksmanship
[skill]Troll Unguent[/skill][skill]Broad Head Arrow[/skill][skill]Apply Poison[/skill][skill]Zojun's Shot[/skill][skill]Throw Dirt[/skill][skill]Lightning Reflexes[/skill][skill]Pin Down[/skill][skill]Flesh of My Flesh[/skill] <- moslty in pve but sumtimes i take it in for pvp
My questions are:
1. What bow should i use for pve, arenas, ab? There are so many types lols >.<
2. Can anyone help me improve my build or get me a better one for my reqs?
This build isint too bad , i can take down eles, necros, mesmers, for warriors i just blind em, cripple em, use reflexes and they ignore me after. Rangers i cant compete with really because broad head is main skill there and its basically useless agaisnt them.

bow types for arenas: recurve bow. for AB: bring a flatbow as well for long range shrine capping.
build wise, for pvp it's all about the cripshot or the BA ranger. BHA is only somewhat good in the arenas, and pretty useless elsewhere. either way, you'll need interrupts.

Well you would want to get your expertise to 14. i would replace zojuns for savage shot or d-shot.i find i dont really need a ias skill on rangers so i would replace LR ith natural stride.
Whirling defence is a must have in pvp imo. Also for most pvp BHA isnt going to be hitting much since everyone is moving, buring arrow or cripshot work wonders. I find recurves tend to be the best for pvp.

whirling defense is terrible. always has been, and always will be. why waste a skill slot for it, when natural stride does the same thing and have a better uptime/downtime ratio?
if you really want the leet blocking, go with the escape ranger:
14 exp, 10 marks, 10 wild, 3 prot
sloth hunter's shot/screaming shot
holy veil
dshot
savage shot
mending touch
apply poison
troll unguent/restful breeze
escape
if you want to be REALLY anal, replace holy veil with natural stride for a constant blocking+speedbuff. replace holy veil with rez sig if you're in the arenas.

Moriz L2r, he has no nightfall... so no natural stride, no mending touch
Agreed that the reason you are missing is the longbow, a nice recurve will help there, but some will still be able to be dodged. Look at it like this though, if someone is watching your arrow that closely to be able to dodge them then likely they aren't doing a lot else.
Ex, even without using barrage, you could also play around with weapon spells since you're running rit. One of my favorites is [skill=text]Warmonger's Weapon[/skill] but it's nightfall sadly so try [skill=text]Brutal Weapon[/skill] with anything. Or since you're not big on interrupting, try an R/E with Glass Arrows, a conjure, Dual shot, needling shot and marauder's shot perhaps with an interrupt in there just for spikeage and lightning reflexes?

and that's mostly irrelevant, since whirling defense is still terrible even if natural stride doesn't exist.
if you want leet blocking, use my escape build and replace all the NF skills with non-NF equivalents.

Whirling Defense is fine in AB moriz.
And I mean for the ranger shrines.
I loved my R/A (like back when factions was released)
Going into the Luxon Fortress, after blowing up there gates, Hit escape walk in ,Start eliminating the warrior who was in my way.... Escape running out Hit whirling run to the rangers and take em out
>.>
But ya Whirling generally sucks outside of AB IMO

I actually found that RtW + Point Blank Shot + BHA made a good combo to shut down a monk/ele. I usually hit with BHA, too.

Bow ranger without [skill]distracting shot[/skill] = fail
It's the best ranger skill, use it.

[skill]Escape[/skill][skill]Distracting Shot[/skill][skill]Savage Shot[/skill][skill]Apply Poison[/skill][skill]Troll Unguent[/skill]
Since you don't have NF or EotN, you're kinda limited to that or a Crip Shot. Crip Shot you don't have that Natural Stride.
[skill]Mend Ailment[/skill]
No Mending Touch.
[skill]Hunter's Shot[/skill] or [skill]Debilitating Shot[/skill] I guess.
No Screaming or Sloth Hunter's
Would take Hunter's over Debilitating.
[skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill] if in Arenas
Fill in another skill in AB
I prefer [skill]Purge Signet[/skill] or [skill]Holy Veil[/skill]
12+1+1 Expertise
9+1 Marksmanship
9+1 Wilderness Survival
Rest into Protection Prayers.

This is pretty much a rehash of what other folks have said:
PvE: If you bring something to pull the flight time down ([skill]favorable winds[/skill] or [skill]read the wind[/skill]), flatbow is king. Otherwise I'd go with longbow or longbow+shortbow.
PvP: Recurve for the good flight time + OK range. Most likely to hit your interrupts using recurve.
AB: Recurve + Flatbow for picking off NPCs without aggroing them.

well i got myself a recurve bow now for arenas and stuff, it has max dmg, condition, 30hp, 15^50, gold
i still think broad head arrow rocks, i can so easily kill many casters in ab and arenas, but now i got farther in game and soon comming to get escape and already got barrage
